We came upon a collection of records from a dear friend. It’s actually quite a story of circles which I’ll shrink to a brief summary. I met Richard Gillinson back in 2001 and became buddies with him almost immediately. He is a wonderful soul and could keep me laughing for hours. He also imparted to me as he did to everyone he cared for, his awesome collection of stories of a life in the music biz; he had a successful career in music publishing, writing and performing. Sadly our friendship and business life together came to a sudden end. He was diagnosed with lymphoma and was told he had less than a year to live and went on to live four more years fighting the heck out of it! Among our plans to be grow the music community in South Fl, we frequently spoke about was Soultaco, our recording studio. He spotted Tom’s recording ear from a mile away.
And here we are! The weekend we signed the lease and started moving Soultaco into its new home, we were asked to help his wife move out of their home. In the midst of this massive migration (those who helped know what I mean. 🙂 ) she passed over to us equipment from his studio and more importantly his massive record collection. Many of them are first prints coming straight out of London; rock, pop, classical, all from the early 60’s to the 80’s. We all had a good laugh as we looked through them together. I am over the moon to have inherited them!! I told her we would take great care of them, she smiled and said he would have wanted you to have them.
So let’s get down to business, we have a lot of listening to do! With this chain of events, I decided to start a blog and see who else knows about some of these mysterious artists and if anyone gets a kick out of it as much as I do! The records are organized, in record friendly boxes, and are ready for listening!! Wish me luck!
